The Province of Middlesex is proud to announce the launch of The 1870 Club, a newly evolved organisation that succeeds the former PGO Club and reflects a modern, inclusive vision for Provincial fellowship. Named in honour of the year the Province was consecrated, The 1870 Club marks a new chapter in strengthening connections across the Masonic community.
“The world—and Freemasonry with it—has changed considerably since the PGO Club was founded in 1988,” said RW Bro David Allan. “There is now a clear need for a broader and more inclusive organisation that fosters fellowship and communication across a wider audience.”
Membership of The 1870 Club is open to all Installed Masters within the Province. The Club is committed to delivering a diverse calendar of social events and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement with the Provincial Executive.
W Bro Nigel Codron has been appointed the inaugural Chairman of The 1870 Club and will lead a dedicated committee tasked with delivering the Club’s ambitious programme of activities.
What is it?
The Middlesex 1870 Committee serves as the coordinating body for social events across the Province. Its aim is to ensure a well-planned and inclusive calendar of events, promote collaboration, and encourage participation across all levels of Freemasonry in Middlesex. The committee’s work helps to strengthen bonds of friendship and shared purpose within the Province.
Why 1870?
The name 1870 commemorates the year in which the Province of Middlesex was officially consecrated. It reflects our rich heritage and honours a defining moment in our Masonic history, while also providing a distinctive identity for the Club’s forward-looking mission.
Who’s involved?
The Club is chaired by W Bro Nigel Codron, PSGD, PAsstProvGM, supported by a team of committed Freemasons drawn from across the Province. Together, they plan and deliver a wide range of events—from Provincial Fêtes and Light Blues Club gatherings to the Worshipful Masters’ Dinner—ensuring a vibrant and engaging social experience for all.
