On a somewhat chilly and damp St. George’s day parade in Whitton, your intrepid team of Provincial Ambassadors braved the inclement weather to beat the drum (figuratively – though there were lots of drums in the parade) for you and your Province.
The teams each go out on your behalf several times in the spring and summer of each year, at various locations and events, to inform the public at large about Freemasonry. It’s not just about direct recruitment either, but to get our name and the aims and benefits of our Fraternity out into public view.
In this instance it was Bros. Guy Dunk, Keith Watson and Kam Chana (along with a retinue of carefully chosen Teddies) who endured the chilly conditions in order to promote Freemasonry to the uninitiated and popular world. They did an excellent job too letting the public know about the Teddies i.e., Teddies for Loving Care and all the other worthy causes we support each year.
In addition to several conversations with Freemasons who were passing, they also attracted the attention of many who were just curious about Freemasonry, and quite a few who showed an interest in joining. Interestingly, there were many women who expressed in joining, rather than on behalf of their partners. With their average age looking to be around forty, it looked like Lady’s Freemasonry is attracting a good number of younger members.
There was a good selection of different leaflets on offer to hand out to those who stopped to inquire, giving information on diverse subjects such as Freemasonry in general, information for interested prospective Mason’s wives, How to join, what to expect, etc.
Who knows, the next candidate for Initiation into your own Lodge might just be the result of these brethren’s hard work on the streets and in the parks of the Province each year.
