A report of the Convocation of North Middlesex First Principals Chapter No 9240 by E. Comp Peter Lovell MBE – Scribe E.
The installation of the Principals is always an important event in the history of any Chapter, but a ceremony performed at Harrow Masonic Centre on Tuesday, 3rd October had a special significance, and not just for the Companions installed in the Principals’ Chairs.
The Installation Convocation of the North Middlesex First Principals’ Chapter No 9240 was the first official duty of E Comp David Allan, ME Grand Superintendent of and over the Province of Middlesex, when he installed E Comp Bryan Harfield PProvGSN as First Principal of the Chapter; and E Comp Christopher Staunton LGCR and E Comp Mark Jackson as Second and Third Principals.
ME Companion David, was accompanied at the meeting by the Deputy Grand Superintendent John Eynon PPSwdB, the Second Provincial Grand Principal Peter de Wolfe PGStB, and Third Provincial Grand Principal Howard Hughes PGStB, together with a number of other Officers of the Province. He told the meeting the occasion was an especially significant one as it marked the tenth Anniversary of the Chapter. It had initially been formed as Middlesex First Principals’ (Southgate) Chapter, but renamed to appeal to Companions from a wider geographical area, with the changes to the by-laws allowing meetings at either Harrow or Southgate. Companion David congratulated the Founders of the Chapter on the progress made, and in particular thanked E Comp Michael Shurety, who was stepping down as Scribe Ezra after many years in the role, but would remain as Assistant Scribe E to ease the path of his successor. He wished Bryan and the other Principals, and all the other members of the Chapter, a very happy and enjoyable year.
ME Companion David went on to thank those who had supported at his Installation on the previous day as Grand Superintendent in Royal Arch and Pro Provincial Grand Master in Craft Masonry. He had referred then to the results of the work done by the membership team continuing to encourage the right people to join Freemasonry and the Province of Middlesex in particular. At the same time, he said, we need to encourage existing members of the Craft to complete their journey in pure and antient Freemasonry by joining the Royal Arch.
E Comp Bryan Harfield, the newly-installed First Principal of the Chapter responded by thanking the ME Grand Superintendent for leading the ceremony and the accompanying Companions for participating, before presenting his predecessor E Comp Anthony Sinclair SLGCR with a firing glass as a memento of his year in office. He concluded by wishing the new Provincial Grand Superintendent every success in both his roles in Craft and Royal Arch Freemasonry.
The ME Grand Superintendent David Allan. The Convocation was followed by an extremely convivial Festive Board attended by 38 members and their guests.
