Middlesex Masters (Southgate) Lodge No 9240 - Installation. Middlesex Masters (Southgate) Lodge No 9240 – Installation.

Ed: Not a Hitchcock thriller movie (that was North by North West), although it might qualify as a traffic horror story where the Pro Provincial Grand Master had to traverse the Province on his way to Southgate Masonic Centre from his Surrey home. At some stage this would have involved the M25 and an exit at Junction 24 to head down towards Southgate. A journey of over 50 miles.

W. Bro Peter Lovell MBE PPrGReg, Southgate Correspondent for the Provincial Media Team provided this report:

“The most recent Middlesex Masters’ Installation meeting of the current year took place on Thursday, 14th March, when Middlesex Masters (Southgate) Lodge No. 9240 met at Southgate Masonic Centre. This was the fourth such ceremony honoured by the present of RW Bro David Allan, Pro Provincial Grand Master. The Lodge was opened by the Worshipful Master, W Bro John Eynon, PJGD, PProvDepGDC, who wished everyone present, especially the visitors, a very warm welcome. The guests included:

From Middlesex Masters Harrow Lodge No 9787 – W Bro Howard Lewis, Secretary; Middlesex Masters Lodge (Twickenham), No 3420 – W Bro Rajesh Desai, Secretary; Middlesex Masters (Uxbridge) No 9292: W Bro Paul Sully, Worshipful Master; and W Bro Ruel Lawrence, Secretary.

The regular business of the Lodge was conducted, following which W Bro Mark Millard, PAGStB, Past Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies, sought and was granted admission. He informed the Worshipful Master that RW Bro David Allan, Pro Provincial Grand Master, accompanied by other senior officers of the Provincial was without, and demanded admission.

A guard of honour was formed, and the Pro Provincial Grand Master entered the Lodge, together with W Bro Jim Mitchell, PSGD, Deputy Provincial Grand Master; W Bro Robert Rough, PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master; W Bro Paul Sully, PAGSwdB, Assistant Provincial Grand Master;  W Bro Robert McLintock, PProvincial Senior Grand Warden; W Bro Martin Burt, Provincial Junior Grand Warden; W Bro Joseph Furneaux Gotch, Provincial Grand Sword Bearer;  W Bro Patrick Cahill, Provincial Assistant Grand Standard Bearer;  W Bro Bram Vyas, Provincial Grand Steward; W Bro Jim Owens, Provincial Grand Steward; and W Bro Tom James PAGStB PProvAGSwdB, Provincial Grand Tyler.

The Pro Provincial Grand Master accepted the gavel offered by the Worshipful Master and took the Chair, and proceeded to Install W Bro Peter Lovell, MBE PPrGReg, in the Chair of King Solomon in an exemplary manner, following which the Worshipful Master was proclaimed, saluted and greeted in all three degrees and presented with the working tools of each degree.

The Pro Provincial Grand Master went on to congratulate the Worshipful Master on his Installation, and wished him well in his year of office.

The Worshipful Master then appointed and invested his Officers for the forthcoming year, including W Bro Tony Sinclair SLGR PPrJGW as Senior Warden, W Bro Barnaby Hunt PProvAGDC as Junior Warden, W Bro Hasan Hurer as Treasurer, and W Bro Michael Rye, OBE PPrDepGReg as Secretary.

W Bro Jim Mitchell, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master then gave the Address to the Master, W Bro Robert Rough PSGD the Address to the Wardens, and W Bro Paul Sully PAGSwdB the Address to the Brethren; all in a manner to be expected of brethren of their high status.

The Installation ceremony concluded, the Pro Provincial Grand Master congratulated those members of the Lodge who were due to receive appointments or promotions at the forthcoming Annual Provincial meeting at Freemasons’ Hall on 14th May, and expressed the hope they would be well supported when they were invested.

The Installation meeting was followed by a Festive Board attended by over sixty members of the Lodge and their guests”. Worth the trip.
