Sponsor an event at PMK Court.
Many will know that Freemasonry provides care homes that support older Freemasons, their families and people in the wider community with residential care, nursing and dementia support. Run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company, there are 17 homes in England and Wales, including Prince Michael of Kent Court in Watford.
Perhaps less well known is the work of the Association of Friends of Prince Michael of Kent Court, which is a volunteer group of Freemasons and others that complement the services provided to residents for example, by organising entertainment and social events and by interacting with residents to improve their quality of life. As the Association looks back on a successful 2023, it is appealing for assistance from Lodges and Chapters as well as individual Freemasons to help carry on the good work in 2024.
In 2023 the Association of Friends organised 25 events for residents, in addition to its regular coffee mornings, supper clubs and monthly chats. These events ranged from the Summer and Christmas parties through a number of varied musical events, ranging from an Elvis and Ratpack Swing Show to a ukelele group called Katie’s Jumping Fleas, both of which were so good that they have been invited back for 2024.
There will be another bumper schedule of events next year (2024) and the Association of Friends is also planning projects which include the refurbishment of the garden of Elgood Wing to enable dementia residents to enjoy going outdoors in a safe and secure environment plus a revamp to the kitchen / dining-room in Forrester Wing. To achieve all of these goals it is seeking volunteers to help out at events as well as event sponsors, who will be invited to the event as guests of honour.
