Three generations of Alexanders at Felix Lodge No 1494
On Tuesday 5th November W Bro. Robert Paul Alexander became the third generation of the Alexander family to be installed into the chair of King Solomon.
A highly emotional ceremony saw Bro. Robert being installed by his Father – W. Bro Graham Paul Alexander (Lodge Secretary) who himself was WM in 2008. Robert’s Grandfather Kenneth John Alexander was WM in 1992.
A double celebration had been planned for the March 2018 meeting, when plans were made to initiate Robert on the day his Grandfather was to be presented with his 50-year certificate. Sadly it was not meant to be, as Kenneth passed to the Grand Lodge Above in November 2017, just two months short of his 50th anniversary of initiation, but Robert was initiated by his Father, who then gave the eulogy for his own Father at the same meeting – another highly emotional event at Felix Lodge No.1494.
Felix Lodge No 1494 was consecrated in 1874 at the Clarence Hotel, Teddington where the Provincial Grand Lodge of Middlesex held its inaugural meeting in 1870. The book Middlesex Matters sheds little light on the chosen name for the Lodge except to say that felix means happy or “lucky”, a name going back to Roman times. It just also happened to be the name of the founding Junior Warden, Brother Felix Sumner Knyvett. That may be stretching a point.
The celebration of the Lodge’s 150th anniversary earlier in May this year and this well attended installation ceremony has capped off a fine year for the Lodge.
Just like a good wine, the older the lodge gets, the better it becomes for all involved.
