On Wednesday 13th August 2025, W. Bro. Ollie Mazzitelli of the Circle of Friendship Lodge No. 7320 the Middlesex Freemasons Representative for the Get Started Therapy initiative, undertook a special visit to Hillingdon Hospital. His purpose was both simple and profound: to bring comfort and joy to the young patients of the Bumblebee Children’s Ward through the delivery of a consignment of Therapy Art Colouring Books.
These books, part of the popular Get Started therapy art series, have already found their way into care homes, hospitals, and children’s hospices across Middlesex. They are highly sought after, not only because of their engaging designs but also for the therapeutic value they provide. For children who face long hours in hospital, the act of colouring offers distraction, creativity, and a gentle sense of normality in what can otherwise be a daunting environment.
Ollie was warmly welcomed by the ward staff, who were genuinely thrilled by the donation. Among them was Alison, a nurse proudly wearing a pink top, who was especially delighted to greet him. During their conversation, Alison revealed that her father is himself a Middlesex Freemason, meeting regularly at the nearby Uxbridge Centre. This happy coincidence added an extra layer of connection to the occasion, reminding everyone present of the enduring bonds that Freemasonry fosters across generations and communities.
The impact of such seemingly small gestures should not be underestimated. For the young patients on the Bumblebee Ward, the colouring books are more than a pastime — they provide relief from anxiety, a means of expression, and a welcome escape into the imaginative worlds that colouring inspires. For parents and carers, seeing their children engaged and entertained offers comfort and a moment of respite during difficult times.
Ollie himself was deeply moved by the enthusiastic reception he received. The gratitude of the staff was immediate and heartfelt, and it was clear that the books would quickly find their way into the hands of eager young patients. As he reflected on the visit, Ollie remarked on the privilege it was to represent Middlesex Freemasons in this way and to contribute to a project that so directly improves the lives of others.
The Get Started Therapy Art Colouring Books initiative continues to gain momentum within the Province of Middlesex. From residential care homes to hospital wards and children’s hospices, the books have become a beloved resource, enriching the daily lives of people of all ages. The popularity of the scheme reflects the enduring relevance of Freemasonry’s core values: relief, charity, and service to the community.
Acts such as this exemplify how Freemasons, through simple but thoughtful projects, can bring real benefit to local people. While Freemasonry is often recognised for its history, tradition, and ritual, it is in these everyday acts of kindness that its principles truly come alive. The visit to Hillingdon Hospital is just one example among many, but it captures perfectly how the collective generosity of Middlesex Freemasons continues to ripple outward, touching lives in ways both tangible and heartfelt.
For the children of Bumblebee Ward, a little colour has gone a long way — thanks to the support of Middlesex Freemasonry.
