MIDDLESEX CARES – DEMENTIA SEMINARS REPORT
W. Bro Laurence Davidson PPrGStB provides an overview of two dementia seminars conducted in February and March this year. The first session took place on 23rd February in the morning and the second was held on 10th March in the early evening. Both events aimed to raise awareness about dementia, offer guidance to carers, and foster community engagement on this important topic. The morning seminar focused on recognising early signs of dementia and understanding available support services. The expert speaker was Anne Childe.
An online thumbnail biography provides the following brief details of Anne, “She was appointed Pharmacy and Dementia Specialist Lead at The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company in November 2016, to support the organisation’s objective to provide high quality dementia care in each of its Care Homes across England and Wales. Anne has been a qualified pharmacist for over 30 years and is passionate about her profession. She has worked as a Community Pharmacist, a lead Pharmacist for Mental Health, a lead Pharmacist in a Nurse Lead intermediate community setting for older people and more recently in direct dementia care in Health and Social Care. Also, she presented up-to-date information about diagnosis, treatment options, and coping strategies. Interactive discussions allowed participants to share personal experiences and ask questions.”

The evening seminar on 10th March followed the same format as the first and was again presented by Anne Child who presented up-to-date information about diagnosis, treatment options, and coping strategies. There followed interactive discussions which allowed participants to share personal experiences and ask questions. Feedback from attendees highlighted the usefulness of the information and the supportive atmosphere. Both seminars were well received, with participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to learn and connect with others facing similar challenges. Future sessions are planned to continue providing education and support to the community. About 60 people in total attended both seminars.
