A Rare Double Initiation at Harrow Temple in Unity Lodge No. 1310

Harrow Temple in Unity Lodge No. 1310 enjoyed a particularly special evening on Tuesday 17th February, when the Lodge conducted the rare privilege of initiating two new candidates at the same meeting.

Brothers Matthew Hirst and Shyam Kanani were welcomed into Freemasonry in a well‑attended and uplifting ceremony. Matthew first encountered the Craft at a Middlesex Discover Freemasonry event last year, while Shyam joins as a long‑standing friend of several members of the Lodge—two very different paths converging in a shared beginning.

With the Worshipful Master overseas, the ceremony was conducted by W Bro Justin Purcell, PJGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, who previously served as Master of the Lodge in 2005–2006. It was a meaningful return to the Chair some twenty years later. The double initiation was carried out with precision, supported by the officers and brethren of the Lodge.

The Working Tools were presented with confidence by Bro Sunny Chotai, and the Charge was delivered with warmth and clarity by W Bro Dave Windsor, both adding greatly to the quality of the evening.

The meeting also saw the election of Bro Kishan Nathwani as Master Elect for the forthcoming year. This marks an exciting moment for the Lodge, as every progressive office is now held by Light Blue brethren rising steadily through the ranks—an encouraging sign of the Lodge’s vitality and future strength.

The evening concluded in high spirits, with members and guests alike celebrating the initiation of two new brothers.
