When members of Parthenon Lodge No. 7310 heard in the Charity Steward’s report that a local Walking Netball group was preparing a special tribute for a lost teammate, the brethren quickly agreed that the Lodge should support the effort with a donation from the Relief Chest. Cancer has touched many within the Lodge, and the cause resonated deeply.
The group in question is led by Angela Doran, whose weekly Walking Netball sessions have become a lifeline for participants aged 40 to 80. Far more than exercise, the gatherings offer companionship, laughter, and regular socials that help ease loneliness and build lasting friendships.
Their latest challenge is in memory of Alison Lamond, a much-loved member who recently passed away. To honour her, Angela proposed entering the annual Rennie Grove Hospice Rudolph Run in St Albans, united in matching “Ali’s All Stars” shirts. Alison’s family and close friends are also hoped to join the team.
Angela, whose husband and Jacqueline Wilson’s husband are both members of Parthenon Lodge, was moved by the Lodge’s generosity. With three generations of her family involved in Freemasonry, she said the gesture reflects the spirit of kindness and support she has always associated with the Craft.
