The MCF have made another grant in the name of Middlesex Freemasonry. £15,000 to Greenwood Community Centre in Hampton Hill,
Out of Hampton and Hampton Hill Voluntary Care hub at Greenwood Community Centre, more than 100 volunteers work with to provide a range of welcoming and accessible services, designed to support older people affected by loneliness and challenges to their independence. Nearly all of service users are over 65 years old and over half are over 85. The work of the Charity supports them to build connections, feel less alone and maintain their independence.
Welcoming and Accessible
Hampton & Hampton Hill Voluntary Care provide a range of welcoming and accessible services from their base at the Greenwood Community Centre. A dedicated staff team and 100 plus volunteers deliver a wide range of services for older isolated people, including befriending; a community transport scheme; digital inclusion activities; and support services in the community, such as food shopping and doorstep deliveries of books and prescriptions. The need for these services is very clear. Having a lower sense of neighbourhood belonging is thought to be a key risk factor for loneliness, along with living alone, having a disability, as well as lifestyle challenges which are more common in older people, such as access to transport, digital inclusion and other enablers of independence. 51% of the Charity’s beneficiaries live alone, 41% consider themselves to have a disability and 46% use a mobility aid. The charity supports at least 366 people each year, and their positive impact is very evident. Last years’ service user survey found that 91% of people felt that the services made them feel happier or more positive, 69% felt the services helped them to remain independent and 60% consider the services they accessed actively improved their self-confidence. The MCF of £15000 grant will help the Charity to meet the rising demand for their services.
