The annual Beauchamp Trophy, hosted by the South East Interprovincial Masonic Golf Society, returned in triumphant fashion this September, marking a fitting season finale for the Middlesex Masonic Golf Society (MMGS).
Held at the picturesque Surrey Downs Golf Club on the 18th September, the competition welcomed 43 players representing seven Masonic Provinces, including two strong teams from Middlesex, both of whom contributed to an exciting and closely contested day of Masonic golf and fellowship.
Middlesex Tams & Performances
Middlesex fielded two teams:
- Team A: Bob Rough, Kanti Mistry, Jayesh Maru, Kunal Vyas
- Team B: Harry Badh, Steve Bevis, John Hoare, Kenneth Koranteng
The format featured both individual and team Stableford scoring, with the best two scores per hole contributing to each team’s total. The individual competition proved exceptionally tight — with just three points separating the top ten players overall.
Individual Scores (Stableford):
- Harry Badh – 36 pts (6th overall)
- Bob Rough – 33 pts (14th)
- Kanti Mistry – 32 pts (22nd)
- John Hoare – 29 pts (28th)
- Kenneth Koranteng – 28 pts (30th)
- Jayesh Maru – 27 pts (33rd)
- Steve Bevis – 27 pts (34th)
- Kunal Vyas – 17 pts (43rd)
Team Competition
The team event culminated in a thrilling three-way tie at 88 points, between:
- Wiltshire Team B – declared winners on countback
- West Kent Team B
- West Kent Team A
Middlesex Team B finished in a creditable 7th place with 84 points — with only four points separating the top eight teams, highlighting the highly competitive nature of the day.
Middlesex Season Highlights
The Beauchamp Trophy brought the curtain down on a vibrant and successful season for Middlesex, which began with the MMGS Annual Day in June, followed by the Quad Match in July against Surrey, Sussex, and the Metropolitan Grand Lodge at Hertsmere.
Looking ahead to 2026, the MMGS calendar continues to expand, with the introduction of a new interprovincial match in August against Hertfordshire, and hopes that Bedfordshire will also be joining the field.
Event Organisation & Special Guests
The event was organised with precision and good humour by:
- Harry Badh (Middlesex) – Starter for the Day, whose trademark wit helped calm first-tee nerves.
- Bipin Patel (West Kent) and S. L. Choo (MetGL) – Scoremasters, who ensured every card was counted and verified.
The Prize Giving Ceremony was hosted by Bipin Patel and honoured by the presence of RW Bro. John Reid, Provincial Grand Master of Wiltshire, who graciously presented the trophies to the deserving winners.
The return of the Beauchamp Trophy was warmly welcomed by all participants, reaffirming its place as a cornerstone of the South East Masonic golfing calendar — a true celebration of fellowship, friendly competition, and the enduring spirit of Freemasonry.
Looking Ahead to 2026
The 2026 Beauchamp Trophy promises to be even bigger and better, with Berkshire, Hertfordshire, and Bedfordshire expected to join the roster. Sussex is also set to make a welcome return, having been unable to field a team this year.
This increasing participation reflects both the event’s growing popularity and its vital role in strengthening bonds between Masonic Provinces through sport, camaraderie, and shared values.
