On Tuesday, 28th January 2025, the Secretary of Greenford Lodge No. 4909, W Bro Roy Philp PAGDC, PPJGW, was presented with his 60-year certificate by W Bro Ian Ferguson PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master.
Before this special presentation, W Bro Roy stepped in for the Worshipful Master, who was unable to attend, and conducted a Third Degree ceremony on behalf of Golders Green Lodge No 3410. Once the ceremony concluded, W Bro Ian Ferguson shared an insightful reflection on Roy’s life and highlighted how Roy had mentored him, shaping his own Masonic journey.
Born in 1940, Roy’s life has been defined by resilience and service. In 1964, amidst a changing world, he embarked on his Masonic journey with his initiation into Greenford Lodge No. 4909. Since serving as Master in 1973, he has continuously held office, demonstrating an unbroken commitment to Freemasonry.
His record speaks for itself:
- Master: Seven times, leading with wisdom for nine years.
- Director of Ceremonies: Eight terms, preserving ritual excellence for 24 years.
- Secretary: A pillar of administration, serving six times, including Scribe E roles, totaling an astonishing 51 years.
- Treasurer: Ensuring financial stability for 23 years.
- Mentor: Guiding brethren for 14 years.
- Charity Steward: Supporting Masonic charity for three years.
- Assistant Director of Ceremonies: Ten years of dedication to ceremonial precision.
- Hermes Administrator: Four years embracing modern administration.
- Visiting Officer: Six years of invaluable service.
In total, Roy has devoted 136 years of service across these roles—an unparalleled commitment.
Roy has been a mentor and guide to many, shaping the journeys of countless brethren with his wisdom and encouragement. His impact is immeasurable.
