W Bro Ken, This Is Your Life

L to R: W Bro Anthony Wicks PPrGReg (Bedfordshire) acting W), W Bro Ken Hutchings PPrJGW and W Bro Paul Sully PSGD, APGM.

On Saturday, 18th January 2025, Harmony Lodge No 5835 hosted an extraordinary meeting to honour W Bro Ken Hutchings PPrJGW, for his remarkable 60 years of dedication to Freemasonry.

The evening was made even more special by the presence of W Bro Paul Sully PSGD, APGM, and W Bro George Fraser PProvDepGDC, who made a special visit for the occasion.

Ken had originally hoped to receive his certificate at the November 2024 meeting, but the presentation had to be postponed as it fell just ten days short of his anniversary date. Demonstrating the high regard in which Ken is held, W Bro Paul Sully and W Bro George Fraser went the extra mile, ensuring the January meeting was a memorable celebration of Ken’s Masonic journey.

W Bro Paul Sully delivered an engaging “This Is Your Life” presentation, recounting highlights of Ken’s life, career, marriage, and Freemasonry, impressively, all without referring to notes. This personal touch made the evening even more meaningful for Ken, who is affectionately described as being “85 years young.”

Ken’s Masonic journey began when he was initiated into Harmony Lodge on 14th November 1964. He was Passed on 18th September 1965 and Raised on 15th January 1966. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1976-77 and has remained a steadfast member, never joining another lodge. Currently serving as the Lodge Inner Guard and Mentor, Ken is an enduring example of dedication and commitment.

Ken’s connection to Harmony Lodge is rooted in practicality as well as tradition, having chosen the Lodge because it met on Saturdays, as he couldn’t get time off work, allowing him to balance his work commitments with Freemasonry. Over the years, his unwavering attendance and service has inspired countless brethren.

The evening also featured the raising of Bro. Zdravko Kolev to the sublime degree of a Master Mason, with members and guests stepping in to cover absences due to sickness. This collaborative effort added to the warmth and camaraderie of the evening, making it a truly memorable occasion.

Harmony Lodge No 5835 will undoubtedly cherish the memory of this special meeting, celebrating the extraordinary contributions of a brother whose 60 years of service exemplify the very best of Middlesex Freemasonry.
