Farewell to APGM W Bro Bob Rough

At the recent 1870 Club Dinner (formerly PGO Club), it was officially announced that W. Bro Bob Rough would be stepping down from his role as Assistant Provincial Grand Master at the end of this Masonic year. While Bob was well aware of this transition, he was completely taken by surprise when his Visiting Officers took the opportunity to present him with a thoughtful gift in recognition of his dedicated service as Group 2 leader for the past seven years.

Understanding Bob’s deep appreciation for woodworking, the team selected a truly special token of gratitude—a beautifully hand-carved fruit bowl crafted from the root ball of a Cryptomeria, commonly known as Japanese Cedar. This unique and meticulously made piece was chosen not only for its craftsmanship but also as a lasting symbol of the strong bonds and friendship that had developed under Bob’s leadership.

Visibly moved by the unexpected gesture, Bob expressed his heartfelt thanks to his team. He shared that the gift would take pride of place in his home, serving as a constant reminder of the wonderful team spirit that had flourished over the years. He reflected on the shared experiences, challenges, and successes that had marked his tenure as Group 2 leader, emphasising the dedication and unity that had defined their time together.

Bob’s leadership has left a lasting impact on both the team and the province, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual support. His colleagues and friends were keen to show their appreciation, and this presentation was a fitting tribute to the respect and admiration he has earned throughout his years of service.

As Bob prepares to step down from his role, he does so with the knowledge that his efforts have strengthened the bonds within Group 2 and that his legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. The heartfelt gift was not just a token of thanks but a reflection of the esteem in which he is held—a reminder of the friendships and shared purpose that define Masonic service.
