Middlesex First Principals No 3420 – 100th Meeting

Monday 24th March 2025 was a landmark moment for Middlesex First Principals Chapter No 3420. Most Excellent Companion, David Allan, Provincial Grand Superintendent, attended the Convocation in his capacity as a member but with the special task of presenting to the Chapter a Certificate in recognition of its 100th meeting. These occasions are always gratifying and deserve to be celebrated at the same time reflecting on all those Companions who have contributed to success of the Chapter.

The meeting also saw the presentation of the Annual Gordon Bourne Lecture, which was given this year by Comp Clive Moore. It was entitled: – “Exploring The Royal Arch”. Clive explored the history of the Royal Arch, including its regalia, the layout of Chapter rooms, and the workings of late 18th century Chapters. In this talk he was able to answer many of the questions that puzzle Exaltees about the ritual’s meaning and its symbolism, as well as throwing light upon areas of ongoing interest to the more experienced Companion. He explained that the “Holy Royal Arch has been Freemasonry’s crowning glory for nearly 300 years. It takes us on a journey beyond the great pillars of Craft Freemasonry, to address the more spiritual aspects of our Masonic education”.

He stated that Exaltation into the Royal Arch is a truly moving experience, especially that moment when the candidate is restored to light, and he sees the open Chapter arrayed before him. But there is a deeper significance, and he hoped that his talk would help towards a better understanding of the Degree.

Clive Moore is a member of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No 2076 and has written and presented on many topics covering areas of interest in both Craft and Royal Arch Freemasonry.
