The 2024 Middlesex Director of Ceremonies and Preceptors Seminar held at TDMC on the morning of Saturday 28th September was well received by the many attending Middlesex Lodge & Chapter DCs, providing valuable insights to attendees. The previous DCs event took place in 2017. This Seminar was both anticipated and needed and was Chaired by the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies W Bro/E Comp Mark Millard PAGStB, PGStB (RA). It featured a comprehensive programme covering various aspects of the role of DC/ADC.
Delegates were welcomed into the Centre and booked in by two ProvDepGDCs (Deps) who then ushered them towards the complimentary tea & coffee. Having been suitably refreshed and armed with their presentation packs the delegates were shown to their seats by the waiting Deputies. The Seminar was opened with a warm welcome and opening remarks from the ProvGDC. Following this, W Bro Frankie Whelan-Mellor PProvDepGDC delivered a detailed section on preparation, equipping attendees with essential knowledge for conducting ceremonies effectively. E Comp Julian Saunders PProvDepGDC then took the stage, sharing his expertise on the Festive Board and its significance in Masonic gatherings.
W Bro Frankie Whelan-Mellor returned to address the topic of the Official Visit, providing valuable guidance on protocol and procedures. A question-and-answer session followed, led by the ProvGDC, allowing attendees to clarify any doubts and seek further information through pre submitted questions.
To add a unique dimension to the event, a brief history of Middlesex Fire was presented by W Bro Mark Millard, the ProvGDC, followed by a demonstration from the team of ProvDepGDCs. Much to the delight of the assembled brethren and the relief of the ProvGDC the Fire was delivered and received in true Middlesex fashion.
The seminar concluded with closing remarks from the ProvGDC, who invited E Comp John Eynon, PGSwdB, Deputy Grand Superintendent to address the audience and the proceedings were then brought to a close by VW Bro Jim Mitchell, PGSwdB Deputy Provincial Grand Master. A buffet lunch then followed giving the attendees the opportunity to engage with the team and ask further questions informally.
The 2024 Middlesex Director of Ceremonies and Preceptors Seminar was a valuable opportunity to affirm and enhance the skills and knowledge of those attending. The expert guidance provided by the speakers, coupled with the practical demonstrations, ensured that participants left the event well-prepared to excel in their roles.
