Nurturing Communities with Support from Middlesex Freemasons

In the heart of Staines, an extraordinary organization called the Manna Foodbank stands as a symbol of hope for the Spelthorne area. Operating as a small yet impactful establishment, this foodbank relies on the goodwill of the community to combat hunger and support those in need. Their unwavering dedication was further amplified by generous donations from Middlesex Freemasons, particularly the Middlesex Armed Forces Lodge No 9940, which received funds from the Middlesex Province Relief Fund to distribute to deserving charities in the Middlesex area.

Guided by the compassionate leadership of Elizabeth Wood-Dow, Chair of Trustees, the Manna Foodbank operates with an innovative approach. Rather than having individuals visit their premises, they take the initiative to deliver food parcels directly to those who had been referred to them. This unique method ensures that even the most vulnerable members of society, who face challenges accessing the foodbank, receive the nourishment they desperately need.

DEVOTED VOLUNTEERS

At the heart of the Manna Foodbank’s success are its devoted volunteers. These compassionate individuals form an integral part of the organization, dedicating their time and effort to collecting donations, assembling food parcels, and delivering them to those in need. Their commitment to serving the community is an essential driving force behind the foodbank’s operations.

Central to the foodbank’s sustainability were the charitable donations received from Middlesex Freemasons. W. Bro. Donald Campbell, Master Elect of the Middlesex Armed Forces Lodge and Provincial Grand Charity Steward, played a significant role in this process. With funds allocated to the Lodge from the Middlesex Province Relief Fund, he arrived at the Manna Foodbank, carrying the goodwill and support of the Freemasons.

These unexpected but welcome funds brought renewed energy and hope to the volunteers at the foodbank. It was a testament to the recognition of their vital work. Elizabeth Wood-Dow expressed her appreciation to W. Bro. Donald Campbell and to the Middlesex Province Relief Fund for their generosity.

This has enabled the Manna Foodbank to enhance its operations and expand its impact. Essential supplies were procured, storage capacity was increased, and a reliable delivery vehicle was acquired. These improvements will allow the foodbank to streamline its processes, ensuring that food parcels were prepared efficiently and delivered promptly to those in need.

MASONIC MOTIVATION

Motivated by the support of Middlesex Freemasons, the Manna Foodbank volunteers redoubled their efforts. They tirelessly sort and pack donated food, meticulously assembling each food parcel with care and compassion. Aware of the significance of their task, they work diligently, knowing that their actions will bring nourishment and hope to struggling individuals and families.

The volunteers also provided a listening ear and give words of encouragement. Their visits go beyond delivering food parcels and every interaction became an opportunity to instil hope, reminding those facing hardship that they were not alone.

As the months pass, the Manna Foodbank with the support of Middlesex Freemasons continues to make a tangible difference in the Spelthorne area to those in need of their essential services.
