A unique and deeply moving ceremony recently took place when members of Harrow Temple of Unity Lodge No. 1310 gathered at the home of W. Bro. Gary Cobden, PPrGReg, to present him with his 50-Year Certificate and commemorative badge.
As Gary’s health no longer allows him to attend Lodge meetings or participate in larger gatherings, the Lodge arranged a personal presentation to ensure this significant Masonic milestone could be celebrated in the company of family and close friends.
Joining Gary at home were his wife, Samantha, who is also a Freemason, together with members of Harrow Temple of Unity and two close friends, both fellow Masons. The presentation was led by W. Bro. Warren Gell, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, who spoke warmly about Gary’s remarkable fifty years of service to Freemasonry.
Gary’s Masonic journey began when he was initiated into Temple of Harrow Lodge in 1975. He was passed and raised in 1976, beginning a lifelong commitment to the Craft that would extend across several Masonic Orders, including the Royal Arch, Mark Masonry and the Order of Royal and Select Masters.
Over the course of five decades, Gary became known throughout Middlesex for his excellent ritual work, his willingness to help wherever needed and his unwavering support of fellow brethren. His service included many important offices, including Worshipful Master, Director of Ceremonies, Junior Deacon, Charity Steward, Almoner and Visiting Officer. Through these roles, he made a lasting contribution to Lodge life and the welfare of countless brethren.
Gary’s dedication extended beyond Harrow Temple of Unity. He was an active member of several Lodges and Chapters, including Middlesex Masters and Domatic, where his experience, knowledge and enthusiasm earned him the respect and friendship of all who worked alongside him.
The home presentation provided an opportunity not only to recognise Gary’s impressive Masonic record, but also to thank him personally for the commitment, friendship and example he has provided over the past fifty years.
While the setting was more intimate than a traditional Lodge presentation, it reflected perfectly the values of friendship, support and brotherly care that lie at the heart of Freemasonry. For all present, it was a memorable occasion and a fitting tribute to a brother whose contribution to the Craft has been both significant and enduring.
Congratulations to W. Bro. Gary Cobden on reaching this remarkable milestone and on fifty years of dedicated service to Freemasonry.
