Jubilee Lodge recently welcomed W. Bro. Ian Ferguson, PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, for a special visit to recognise the long and distinguished Masonic service of one of its most respected members, W. Bro. Len Cobrin.
The occasion centred on the presentation of a Long Service Certificate and commemorative pin to Len, whose Masonic journey began in 1971. Having joined Jubilee Lodge in 1987, he has been a dedicated member of the Lodge for almost four decades, contributing significantly to its success and continuity.
Presenting the certificate on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex, W. Bro. Fergusson reflected on the importance of recognising brethren whose commitment has helped sustain Freemasonry over many years. He noted that while the presentation was somewhat overdue, the gratitude and appreciation it represented were sincere and richly deserved.
Throughout his time in Jubilee Lodge, Len has served in a number of important offices, including Worshipful Master, Almoner, Assistant Director of Ceremonies and Director of Ceremonies. These roles reflect both the confidence the Lodge placed in him and his willingness to serve wherever he was needed.
In particular, his service as Almoner demonstrated his care and concern for fellow brethren, while his work in ceremonial offices helped maintain the standards and traditions of the Lodge. His contribution has been characterised by reliability, commitment and a quiet dedication to the wellbeing of the Lodge and its members.
W. Bro. Fergusson reminded those present that long-service awards are about far more than the number of years involved. They represent the countless meetings attended, ceremonies supported, friendships formed and acts of service performed over a lifetime in Freemasonry. Such contributions are rarely measured individually, but together they form the foundations upon which successful Lodges are built.
The presentation also recognised the wider life experiences that Len has brought to the Craft. A former motor trader who spent time living in Spain, he has enjoyed a full and varied life alongside his Masonic career, sharing many years with his wife, Marilyn. Like many dedicated Freemasons, his personal life and Masonic journey have become closely intertwined over the decades.
Concluding the presentation, W. Bro. Ferguson thanked Len for his loyalty, friendship and long-standing service to both Jubilee Lodge and Middlesex Freemasonry. He described Len’s contribution as an example of the enduring commitment that continues to strengthen the Craft and inspire future generations of Freemasons.
The evening provided a fitting opportunity for the brethren of Jubilee Lodge to show their appreciation for a brother whose dedication and support have been an important part of the Lodge’s story for many years. The presentation was warmly received and followed by enthusiastic applause from all present as Len’s remarkable contribution to Freemasonry was recognised and celebrated.
