A report submitted by W. Bro Leon Hubbard.
“On the frost-kissed evening of January 10th 2024 the Uxbridge Masonic Centre was aglow with a special warmth. Inside, the Brethren of Alperton Lodge No 5548 gathered, not just for their Regular Meeting, but to be part of a heartwarming and rare event in the world of Freemasonry – a Grandfather initiating his Grandson!
W. Bro Ray Tyne, a revered and longstanding member of Alperton Lodge since his own initiation on November 11, 1981, and who had served as Worshipful Master four times, was about to create a cherished family memory. Ray’s joy knew no bounds when he learned of his grandson, Toby Ralph’s, interest in Freemasonry. Toby’s curiosity about the Craft, especially about Ray’s beloved Alperton Lodge, was a source of immense happiness and pride for Ray. Without a moment’s hesitation, Ray proposed Toby for membership, a proposal quickly and enthusiastically seconded by W Bro Bill Ryan.
The journey to initiation was a blend of anticipation and preparation. Toby went through all the necessary interviews with grace and met with members of Alperton Lodge, earning their approval and admiration. The stage was set for January 10th, where Ray would lead the entire Initiation Ceremony.
As the day arrived, the air in the Masonic Centre was electric with excitement and nostalgia. Ray, brimming with pride and honour, conducted an impeccable and complete Initiation Ceremony for his grandson, Bro. Toby Ralph. The Ceremony was not just a ritual; it was a poignant display of familial bonds strengthened through tradition, leaving every Lodge Member and Visitor present deeply moved and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Following the ceremony, the Brethren gathered for a photo session, capturing this extraordinary moment for posterity. Then came the time for the Festive Board, an occasion marked by joyous camaraderie and delightful banter. The atmosphere was jubilant, and the food, as always, was a feast for the senses.
At the Festive Board, Ray stood up to give the toast to the New Initiate. His words, filled with enormous pride, honour, and extreme pleasure, echoed the sentiments of everyone present. Ray expressed his awe and delight at having had the unique opportunity to perform the Initiation Ceremony for his grandson Toby, a moment he had never imagined possible.
A Special Touch
To add a special touch to the already memorable evening, W Bro Bill Ryan introduced an Initiation Poem. This poem was not just read but became an interactive experience for everyone present. Each member of the Lodge, starting with the IPM, read a part of the poem, passing the verse like a torch of wisdom and tradition through the ranks, until it finally reached Toby himself.
Toby, in his response, expressed heartfelt thanks to his grandfather and the Lodge. He shared his hopes and aspirations of becoming a better man through the teachings and experiences of Freemasonry.
The evening at Alperton Lodge was more than just a meeting; it was a celebration of tradition, family, and the unbreakable bonds that Freemasonry fosters. It was an evening that would be remembered fondly and talked about for years to come, a true testament to the enduring spirit of the Lodge and the timeless values it upholds”.
